All providers must apply to a CMS approved accrediting body by January 31st, 2009 and be accredited by October 1st, 2009 in order to continue to be reimbursed for ANY DMEPOS product by Medicare. Your accrediting body is required to notify Medicare that your application was received.

You are subject to an unannounced survey as soon as 30 days after you complete your accreditation application – this means your preparation for survey should be well underway right now.

Adequate preparation time for most independent providers is 8 to 12 months. Less time can leave staff unnecessarily stressed and disrupt normal business practices.
